Psalm 46:1-2a

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear.." ~ Psalm 46:1-2a (NIV)
I so needed this today.  What a perfect scripture to wake up to.  Every moment where I feel fearful and that I'm on my own and I can't find my way, I need to realize that I'm not on my own.  God is there.  He's always present.  He's always there to help us when we think we're by ourselves.

It's hard not to fear things of this world.  After the shooting at the movie theater in Colorado, it's easy to not want to go to a theater to see any movie.  We have fear.  When a plane crashes, it's easy to not want to ride on a plane again because we worry that it could happen to us.  We have fear.  If you're in a car wreck, it's hard to want to drive in that same place where it happened again.  We have fear.  If you're fired from a job, it's hard to want to step foot back into that building.  We have fear.  If someone over time made you fearful because of their verbal abuse, you don't want to be around them.  We have fear.  If you were physically abused, it's hard to want to face that person again.  We have fear.  If you hear of a story where a dog was ran over by a car because they ran out of the house and into the street, it's easy to start watching to make sure the door is closed and know where your dog is at all times.  We have fear.

But here's the thing.  God doesn't want us to fear.  He is there for us no matter what.  In every situation, no matter how big or small, we need to put all of our trust in Him.  He is always present.  He wants us to put all of our hope in Him.  He will protect us through everything.  He will comfort us when we are scared.  He will shower us with grace and understanding when we don't know what to do or say.  He will keep us protected in everything.  Therefore, let us not fear anything, but take those fears to God instead.
